RHI & MCS
WHAT IS THE RENEWABLE HEAT INCENTIVE (RHI)?
RHI is a government incentive scheme to encourage the widespread use of renewable energy in the UK, thus reducing carbon emissions with the intention of slowing down the effects of worldwide climate change. The UK is committed to achieving Carbon Emission Targets by 2020 and is offering this incentive to help bridge the gap in extra costs associated with installing renewable energy technologies.
HOW DOES RHI WORK?
Simply, RHI pays the owner of a qualifying renewable energy technology for the renewable energy it produces (or is likely to produce ) over a period of time. If you are a domestic user, you will need an Energy Performance survey carried out on your property by an Green Deal Energy Assessor. An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) will be produced estimating your annual heating and hot water requirement in Kwh. These figures will be used to estimate how much you will receive and what you will be paid quarterly for seven years based on the technology installed. Commercial users will be metered for renewable energy output and paid the prevailing rate quarterly for 20 years.
HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR RHI?
Renewable Energy technology and Installations must be MCS accredited on all systems less than 45kw. If you are a domestic user, you will need to have a valid EPC referred to above.
IS THE TECHNOLOGY YOU SUPPLY MCS ACCREDITED?
Yes…..all renewable energy technology (air, ground source heat pumps, solar hot water) is fully MCS accredited and RHI compliant.
DO I NEED TO USE AN MCS ACCREDITED INSTALLER?
Not necessarily!!.....The installation must have MCS accreditation to qualify for RHI and many plumbing companies have invested significant sums of money to acquire the accreditation and “specialise” in this field. However, you might find that accredited installers charge premium prices for their services so at The Underfloor Superstore, we can offer you the potentially cheaper alternative of using Non-Accredited Installers through The Underfloor Superstore Umbrella Scheme. We have an umbrella scheme for both air and ground source heat pump systems should you prefer to use non-MCS accredited installers.
HOW MUCH WILL I RECEIVE FROM THE RHI SCHEME?
This depends on whether you are a domestic or commercial user, the technology you are installing and the estimated performance of your building. At The Underfloor Superstore, we are more than happy to give you an idea of what you will receive from the scheme, once we have your basic information.
